Greetings all,
I've never been to the Toronto Islands so I thought it's time to check it out. Here is some info on the Islands:
The Toronto Islands are a chain of small islands in the city of Toronto. They are located a short ferry ride from Queens Quay. The islands are a popular recreational destination, and are home to a small residential community and to the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. The islands offer some of the best views of the city skyline.
At the east end, Wards Island hosts the largest urban car-free community in North America. Centre Island, with its multi-use venues including amusement park and zoo, is a bustling tourist attraction in the summer months. At the west end, Hanlan's Point once a bustling resort destination, is now one of the quieter destinations on the island.
We'll start off along the outer edge of Wards Island. Heading west, we'll pass through the small community that resides there, the boardwalk, Centre Island and eventually to the western-most end at Hanlan's Point. Being that I am not a nudist, there is a clothing optional section at the west end. If you want to chill there on your own or with others, go for it, I won't tell!
Depending on what the group feels like doing, I'd like to explore essentially as much as possible. There's Snake Island, Olympic Island and Muggs Island as well.
There is a ferry point at 3 stops. If you take a look at the map, they are where we start (Ward's Island), Centre Island and Hanlan's Point.
When and where to meet:
Please purchase the 12.45 PM Ferry to WARD'S ISLAND and arrive early to purchase them. We can meet at the boarding area of the Ferry to Ward's Island. Ferry ride is $6.50 (round trip). The ferry runs late at Hanlan Point and the latest ferry back at that point is 9.30 PM. I don't plan on staying that late and would like to stay until 6-9, depending on what's there to do. Centre Island leaves at 11.45 and Ward's Island 11.30.
If you would like to leave on your own, please view the ferry schedule
Please remember to bring snacks, water and a camera if you want to take some pictures. I would be interested in eating something around dinner so we'll where we are at.
I will reschedule this if the weather is not supposed to be good. I will notify those who say yes if it's a go the night before.
Found some detailed maps ( http://www.toronto.ca/parks/pdf/TorontoIslandsPermitInfo....
